Water Line Repair in Hesperia & the High Desert
Repair and Replace Your Main Water Line
The buried water line that runs from your meter to your house carries every drop you use, so when it leaks or breaks, you notice fast. We handle water line repair and main water line replacement for homes and businesses across Hesperia, Victorville, Apple Valley, Adelanto, Barstow, Big Bear, and the rest of San Bernardino County. If the failing pipe is inside the walls instead, that is repiping, and either way it is part of our full pipe repair services.
Main Water Line Repair Done Right
John’s Plumbing and Rooter has repaired and replaced High Desert water lines since 2000. We are a family-owned, licensed plumbing contractor with a master plumber on the team, and we handle water line repair, main water line repair, and full main water line replacement for homes, businesses, and municipal clients across Hesperia, Victorville, Apple Valley, Adelanto, Barstow, Big Bear, and the wider San Bernardino County.
Your water service line is the single pipe that brings water from the meter into your home, and it usually runs underground across the yard or under the driveway. When it fails, you can lose pressure, run up a huge bill, or lose water to the house entirely. Because it is buried, the damage often shows up at the surface before you ever see the pipe.
Lines fail for plenty of reasons out here: age, ground movement, tree roots, corrosion, and freezing in the higher elevations. Whether you have a slow leak soaking the yard or a full water main break, we locate the trouble precisely so we are not digging up the whole property to find it. A precise locate can mean the difference between one small dig and a torn-up yard.
From there, we give you honest options. Sometimes a spot repair is enough; sometimes the line is past saving and a replacement makes more sense. We explain the difference, including trenchless water line replacement where it fits, and we give you upfront pricing with financing available on the bigger jobs.

Signs of a Water Line Problem
A Wet Spot in the Yard
A persistent wet spot in the yard, soggy ground, or a patch of grass that is greener than the rest often means a water line leaks underground. The water is surfacing from the buried line below.
Your Water Bill Suddenly High
When your water bill is suddenly high with no change in habits, a hidden leak in the service line is a common cause. The line runs all day, so even a small underground leak adds up fast. According to the EPA, ten percent of homes have leaks that waste 90 gallons or more per day. We trace it to the source so the bill can come back down.
Water Pressure Dropped Suddenly
If your water pressure dropped suddenly across the whole house, the supply line may be leaking or partially blocked. A failing main line cannot deliver the flow your fixtures expect.
No Water Coming Into the House
No water coming into the house at all can mean a broken service line or a water main break between the meter and the home. That is an emergency, and it is one we respond to quickly.
Leak Under the Driveway
A water line leak under a driveway or sidewalk is trickier, but it does not always mean tearing up concrete. We locate the leak first and use trenchless methods where we can to spare the hardscape.
Cracking or Sinking Pavement
Pavement that is cracking, sinking, or heaving over the line’s path can be a sign of water washing out the soil beneath it. Left alone, a small leak can undermine a driveway or walkway.
Water Line Services We Offer
- Water Line Repair
When the line is sound except for one failure, a targeted water line repair fixes the leak or break without replacing the whole run. It is the fastest, most affordable fix when the rest of the line is in good shape.
- Main Water Line Replacement
When a line is old, corroded, or failing in more than one spot, main water line replacement is the smarter move. We run a new service line from the meter to the house and leave you with reliable water for decades.
- Trenchless Water Line Replacement
Trenchless water line replacement lets us put in a new line with little digging, often without tearing up the whole yard or driveway. Where the conditions allow, it is faster and far easier on your landscaping. You keep your yard and avoid most of the restoration cost.
- Copper and PEX Water Lines
We install both copper water line and PEX water line for service lines, depending on soil, code, and your preference. Both are durable, modern choices that outlast the old pipe they replace.
Why Homeowners Choose Us
We Locate It First
Before we dig anything, we pinpoint the leak with proper leak detection, so we open the ground only where the problem actually is instead of trenching the whole yard.
Trenchless When It Fits
Where the line and soil allow, we use trenchless water line replacement to save your yard, driveway, and the cost of major excavation and restoration.
Emergency Response
A broken main or no water to the house cannot wait, so we offer emergency water line repair and same-day response to get your water back on. A fast fix limits the water damage and the disruption.
Upfront Pricing
Buried-line work has a reputation for surprise costs, so we locate the problem, scope it, and give you the price before we start, with financing on larger replacements.
What to Expect From the Repair
We start by confirming the line is the problem and locating exactly where it is leaking or broken, using leak detection and line tracing so there is no random digging. You will know what we found and what it will take to fix it before we open any ground.
From there, we either make a targeted repair at the failure point or replace the line. Where it fits, trenchless water line replacement means a couple of small access points instead of a long trench. When a trench is needed, we keep it as tight as possible and protect the rest of the yard.
Once the new or repaired line is in, we pressure-test it, get it inspected where a permit applies, backfill, and restore the dug area. You end up with a reliable line from the meter to the house and a yard put back the way we found it.

Why the High Desert's Hard Water Wears Out Your Plumbing
Hard water is the High Desert’s biggest hidden plumbing problem. The U.S. Geological Survey classifies water above 10.5 grains per gallon as “very hard,” and local supplies often run near 17 grains per gallon. That mineral load builds scale inside pipes, fixtures, and water heaters, which is why a water softener is our most-requested upgrade.
Local High Desert Water Hardness
grains per gallon — local supplies often run near this figure
Local High Desert Water Hardness
the federal standard — our water exceeds it by 60%
Typical Water Heater Lifespan
often cut to 5–7 years in hard-water areas without a softener
The Fix
Pair a softener with whole-house filtration and you've covered both the scale and the taste.
Here’s what that scale costs you. A standard tank water heater is built to last 8 to 12 years, but in hard-water areas it can fail years sooner as sediment and scale eat away at the tank. Softening your water protects that investment, keeps faucets and showerheads flowing, and cuts the soap and detergent you go through.
Removes calcium and magnesium before they build scale. Our most-requested upgrade for High Desert homeowners.

Water Line Questions
Don’t see your question? Call us directly — we’re happy to walk through any plumbing question before you commit to anything.
How much does water line replacement cost?
Water line replacement cost depends on the length of the line, how deep it is, what is on top of it like a driveway, and whether trenchless is an option. We locate and scope it first, then give you a firm price upfront, with financing available on larger jobs.
Who is responsible for water line repair?
In most areas, the water utility owns the line up to the meter and the homeowner owns the water line from the meter to the house. So the buried service line on your property is usually your responsibility. Rules vary by water district, so it is worth confirming with yours, and we can help you sort out where the line is.
Can the line be replaced without digging up my yard?
Often, yes. Trenchless water line replacement uses small access points to pull a new line through, which can avoid tearing up the yard or driveway. We will tell you honestly whether your line is a good candidate after we locate it.
Do you offer emergency water line repair?
Yes. A water main break or no water to the house is an emergency, so we offer emergency water line repair with same-day and after-hours response to limit the damage and restore your water.
Copper or PEX for a water line?
Both work well for a service line. A copper water line is rigid and proven, while a PEX water line is flexible and resists corrosion. We recommend the right one based on your soil, local code, and budget.
