Sump Pump Repair & Installation in Hesperia & the High Desert

Keep Water Out From Under Your Home

A failed sump pump shows up at the worst time, when water is already rising in the crawl space or basement. We repair, replace, and install sump pumps for homes and businesses across Hesperia, Victorville, Apple Valley, Big Bear, Crestline, Lake Arrowhead, and the rest of San Bernardino County. If the water is coming from a plumbing problem rather than groundwater, our leak detection finds the source, and a flooding crawl space is the kind of emergency plumbing we handle day or night.

Sump Pump Service for the High Desert and Mountains

John’s Plumbing and Rooter has kept High Desert homes dry since 2000. We are a family-owned, licensed plumbing contractor, and we handle sump pump repair, sump pump installation, and sump pump replacement for homes, businesses, and municipal clients across Hesperia, Victorville, Apple Valley, Big Bear, Crestline, Lake Arrowhead, and the wider San Bernardino County. When a pump quits, you want it back in service before the water rises.

Out here, most homes sit over a crawl space rather than a basement, and a sump pump keeps groundwater, a plumbing leak, or runoff from pooling under the house. In the mountains, basements and snowmelt make a working pump even more important, which is why crawl space flooding and basement flooding are both problems we deal with often. A pump that fits your situation keeps that water moving out instead of pooling under the house.

When a sump pump is not working, the cause is usually a stuck float switch, a worn motor, a clog, or simply age. We diagnose it, tell you honestly whether a repair or a replacement makes more sense, and get a dependable pump back in the pit. A submersible sump pump sized to your space handles the water without constant cycling.

You get upfront pricing, the service fee credited toward the work, and financing on a full installation. And if the water under your home is coming from a pipe rather than the ground, we trace it, because that may be a slab leak repair instead of a pump problem.

Signs Your Sump Pump Needs Attention

It Will Not Turn On

When the sump pump will not turn on while water is rising, it is often a tripped breaker, a failed switch, or a burned-out motor. Whatever the cause, a pump that stays silent during a flood needs to be looked at right away.

It Runs Constantly

A sump pump running constantly, even when the pit is empty, usually means a stuck float, a wrong-size pump, or water flowing back into the pit. Constant running wears the motor out fast.

The Float Switch Is Stuck

The float is what tells the pump to start and stop. A sump pump float switch stuck in one position either leaves the pump off when you need it or runs when you do not, and it is a common, fixable failure.

Noise, Rust, or Age

Grinding, rattling, visible rust, or a pump well past its years are signs the end is near. Knowing how old it is helps us tell you whether to repair it now or plan a replacement.

Water Still in the Crawl Space

If you have a crawl space water problem that the pump is not keeping up with, the pump may be undersized, failing, or the water source may be something else entirely that we need to find.

It Cycles On and Off Rapidly

Rapid on-off cycling, called short cycling, points to a float or sizing issue and puts a lot of strain on the motor. Left alone, it shortens the life of the pump considerably.

Our Sump Pump Services

Most sump pump repair comes down to a switch, a float, a clog, or a worn part. We diagnose the real cause and fix it, rather than pushing a new pump when the old one has good years left.

For a sump pump installation or replacement, we size a submersible sump pump to your space so it clears the water without running nonstop, and we set it up to drain well away from the house.

A sump pump battery backup keeps the pit pumping when the power goes out, which is exactly when storms and snowmelt tend to hit. It is the difference between a dry crawl space and a flooded one during an outage.

Regular sump pump maintenance, testing the float, clearing the pit, and checking the discharge, catches small problems before the next big storm turns them into a flood.

Why Homeowners Choose Us

We Size It Right

A pump that is too small floods and one too big short cycles, so we match the pump to your water and your space for reliable, long-lasting protection.

Backup for the Outages

We can add a battery backup so a power outage during a storm does not become a flooded crawl space, which matters most in our mountain communities.

We Find the Real Source

If the water is coming from a leak instead of the ground, we find it, so you are not paying for a bigger pump to fight a plumbing problem.

Upfront Pricing, Service Fee Credited

You get the price before we start, the service fee credited toward the work, and financing available on a full installation. No pressure, no surprises.

What to Expect From a Sump Pump Visit

We start by figuring out where the water is coming from and whether your current pump can handle it. If it is groundwater or runoff, the pump is the answer; if it is a plumbing leak, we deal with that first instead of asking the pump to keep up.

From there we tell you honestly whether a repair or a replacement makes sense, walk you through pump sizing and whether a battery backup fits your situation, and give you the price before any work begins. You decide with the full picture in front of you.

Once the pump is in and running, we test it by filling the pit and confirming it clears the water and shuts off cleanly. We also point out simple maintenance you can do so it keeps working when the weather turns.

Related Plumbing Services

If the water under your home is from a hidden pipe, our leak detection finds the source.

Water pooling under the house can come from a pipe below the foundation, which is slab leak repair.

In the mountains, a line that bursts from freezing can flood a crawl space. That’s a job for frozen pipe repair.

A pump that fails while water is rising is an emergency plumbing call we take day or night.

Why the High Desert's Hard Water Wears Out Your Plumbing

Hard water is the High Desert’s biggest hidden plumbing problem. The U.S. Geological Survey classifies water above 10.5 grains per gallon as “very hard,” and local supplies often run near 17 grains per gallon. That mineral load builds scale inside pipes, fixtures, and water heaters, which is why a water softener is our most-requested upgrade.

The Fix

Pair a softener with whole-house filtration and you've covered both the scale and the taste.

Here’s what that scale costs you. A standard tank water heater is built to last 8 to 12 years, but in hard-water areas it can fail years sooner as sediment and scale eat away at the tank. Softening your water protects that investment, keeps faucets and showerheads flowing, and cuts the soap and detergent you go through.

Don't Just Take Our Word for It

Our family has trusted these guys with our plumbing for years and they always do great work! Had some plumbing issues with the toilet in the masterbath and they took care of it right away. Last year our hot water heater broke and they were able to replace it quickly and for a really affordable price. This week our garbage disposal broke and we knew exactly who to call!

Highly recommend this company, especially Levi, who did a beautiful job on our hot water heater last year and on our sink and garbage disposal this week. Levi is very professional- he always does an awesome job and gets it done so fast! Thankyou, Levi/ John’s Plumbing & Rooter! You guys are the best! 🥳🫶🏻

Levi fixed our interior leak, our copper pipe in the master bathroom, angle stops/shut off valves, the ball valve and water pressure regulator. He explained everything he was doing as my husband and I watched. He was very patient with our questions and communication was always open. He got our water running and made sure any defects were addressed. Very grateful for his work!

John’s plumbing was excellent, Levi showed up within an hour and got my backed up drain cleared. Awesome customer service, Levi was very thorough and explained what he was doing and what could’ve caused my backup. Definitely recommend John’s plumbing.

This company was amazing, I called them for an emergency call due to a PCV pipe busting in my backyard. John had Levi out here in less then an hour and was able to get the job done in 30 minutes. I would highly recommend them for any related service needs.

This company was very affordable when I needed some work done on the weekend. The employee, Levi, was very professional and did quality work. Five stars.

Sump Pump Questions

Don’t see your question? Call us directly — we’re happy to walk through any plumbing question before you commit to anything.

Do I need a sump pump?

It depends on the drain, how bad the clog is, and how easy the line is to reach. We give you the price before we start, and the service fee is credited toward the work, so the visit pays for itself when you move forward.

Usually grease, hair, soap, and food waste building up on the pipe walls over time, and sometimes tree roots working into the line outside. Out here, hard-water scale speeds the buildup along. Catching a slow drain early usually means a quick cleaning instead of a full backup later.

Repeat clogs mean there is buildup deeper in the line that a basic snake cannot fully remove. Hydro jetting scours the pipe walls clean, and a camera can confirm whether grease, roots, or a damaged pipe is the cause.

Drain clearing punches a path through a clog to restore flow. Drain cleaning goes further and removes the buildup coating the pipe walls, so the line stays clear longer. For heavy buildup, that deeper clean means hydro jetting.

Often, yes. Call early in the day and we will do our best to get to you the same day. If a drain is backing up after hours, we answer for emergencies.
