Licensed Gas Leak Repair for the High Desert

John’s Plumbing and Rooter has handled High Desert gas leaks since 2000. We are a family-owned, licensed plumbing contractor with a master plumber on the team, and we provide licensed gas leak repair and detection for homes, businesses, and municipal clients across Hesperia, Victorville, Apple Valley, Adelanto, Barstow, Big Bear, and the wider San Bernardino County. A natural gas leak or a propane leak is serious, and it deserves a pro who treats it that way.

First, the safety part, because it matters more than anything else on this page. If you notice a rotten egg smell in the house or any sign of a gas leak, get everyone outside, leave the door open, do not flip switches or light anything, and call your gas utility or 911 from a safe distance. Once the gas is shut off and it is safe, that is when we step in to find and fix the leak.

Finding a leak takes more than a sniff. We use real gas leak detection to pinpoint exactly where gas is escaping, whether it is at a fitting, along a buried line, or at an appliance connection. Pinpointing it means we repair the actual problem instead of guessing, and it is the difference between a real fix and a temporary patch.

Once we find it, we make a proper, code-compliant repair and confirm the line is tight. Sometimes a leak is just a bad fitting; sometimes a corroded line is past saving and the better answer is gas line installation of a new section. Either way we explain your options and give you upfront pricing before we start.

Signs of a Gas Leak

A Rotten Egg Smell

Utilities add a rotten-egg odorant to natural gas so you can smell a leak. A rotten egg smell in the house, even a faint one, is the most common sign of a gas leak and should never be ignored.

Hissing Near a Line or Appliance

A hiss or whistle near a gas line, meter, or appliance can mean gas is escaping under pressure. Do not go looking with a flame, leave and call for help, then have it checked.

Dead Plants Over a Buried Line

Dead or dying vegetation in a line over an otherwise healthy yard can mean gas is leaking from a buried line below and starving the soil. It is a quiet sign that is easy to miss.

A Sudden Jump in Your Gas Bill

If your gas bill climbs with no change in how you use it, gas may be escaping somewhere in the system. A leak does not have to be large to show up on the bill month after month.

Feeling Lightheaded or Unwell at Home

Headaches, dizziness, or nausea that ease when you leave the house can signal a gas problem and should be taken seriously. Get out, get fresh air, and call for help before coming back inside.

A Gas Smell With No Obvious Source

Sometimes there is a gas smell in the house but no leak can be found by the homeowner. The source can be a pilot light that blew out or a tiny, intermittent leak, and that is exactly what thorough gas leak detection is for.

Our Gas Leak Services

We locate the leak precisely with proper gas leak detection equipment, checking lines, fittings, and appliance connections. Finding the exact spot is what makes the repair fast, clean, and lasting.

Once we know where it is, we make a code-compliant gas leak repair, replacing the failed fitting or section and tightening the system back up. We repair both natural gas and propane systems.

We finish with a gas leak pressure test to confirm the line holds, and we handle gas line recertification so the system can be documented and put safely back in service.

If the utility found a problem and your gas line was red tagged, we handle the SoCalGas red tag repair, fix what they flagged, and get the line ready for the utility to re-inspect and restore service.

Why Homeowners Choose Us

Licensed for Gas Work

Gas is no place for guesswork, so you want licensed gas leak repair done to code. We are licensed for this work, pull permits where required, and leave you with a line that passes inspection.

Emergency and After-Hours

A leak will not wait for business hours, so we offer emergency gas leak repair and after hours gas leak repair to get your home safe again.

We Find It, Not Just Patch It

We pinpoint the leak with detection equipment and pressure testing rather than chasing the smell, so the repair solves the real problem the first time.

Upfront Pricing

Even in an emergency, you deserve a clear price. We scope the repair and tell you the cost before we start, with financing available on larger line work.

What to Expect

It starts with safety. If there is an active leak, the gas should be shut off and the home cleared before anyone works on it, which is why we tell you to call your utility or 911 first. Once it is safe, we come in to find and fix the source.

We run gas leak detection across the system to locate the leak exactly, then make the repair, replacing a fitting, a connector, or a section of line as needed. For natural gas and propane alike, we repair to code so the fix is safe and permanent.

To close out, we perform a gas leak pressure test to prove the line holds, handle any permitting or gas line recertification, and coordinate with the utility on a red-tag job so your gas can be turned back on. You end up with a tight, documented, safe system.

Why the High Desert's Hard Water Wears Out Your Plumbing

Hard water is the High Desert’s biggest hidden plumbing problem. The U.S. Geological Survey classifies water above 10.5 grains per gallon as “very hard,” and local supplies often run near 17 grains per gallon. That mineral load builds scale inside pipes, fixtures, and water heaters, which is why a water softener is our most-requested upgrade.

often cut to 5–7 years in hard-water areas without a softener

The Fix

Pair a softener with whole-house filtration and you've covered both the scale and the taste.

Here’s what that scale costs you. A standard tank water heater is built to last 8 to 12 years, but in hard-water areas it can fail years sooner as sediment and scale eat away at the tank. Softening your water protects that investment, keeps faucets and showerheads flowing, and cuts the soap and detergent you go through.

Don't Just Take Our Word for It

Our family has trusted these guys with our plumbing for years and they always do great work! Had some plumbing issues with the toilet in the masterbath and they took care of it right away. Last year our hot water heater broke and they were able to replace it quickly and for a really affordable price. This week our garbage disposal broke and we knew exactly who to call!

Highly recommend this company, especially Levi, who did a beautiful job on our hot water heater last year and on our sink and garbage disposal this week. Levi is very professional- he always does an awesome job and gets it done so fast! Thankyou, Levi/ John’s Plumbing & Rooter! You guys are the best! 🥳🫶🏻

Levi fixed our interior leak, our copper pipe in the master bathroom, angle stops/shut off valves, the ball valve and water pressure regulator. He explained everything he was doing as my husband and I watched. He was very patient with our questions and communication was always open. He got our water running and made sure any defects were addressed. Very grateful for his work!

John’s plumbing was excellent, Levi showed up within an hour and got my backed up drain cleared. Awesome customer service, Levi was very thorough and explained what he was doing and what could’ve caused my backup. Definitely recommend John’s plumbing.

This company was amazing, I called them for an emergency call due to a PCV pipe busting in my backyard. John had Levi out here in less then an hour and was able to get the job done in 30 minutes. I would highly recommend them for any related service needs.

This company was very affordable when I needed some work done on the weekend. The employee, Levi, was very professional and did quality work. Five stars.

Our kitchen flooded. Edgar called and came out earlier than scheduled and we needed him. He went right to work, explained the challenges, and solved them completely. Our kitchen is fixed and we have a beautiful new faucet too. Thank you John’s Plumbing!
We feel the price was quite reasonable. Actually, Edgar went beyond our expectations.

I had an emergency with a toilet. I had called a previous plumber and they had no openings for the same day. Gas Leak Questions

Don’t see your question? Call us directly — we’re happy to walk through any plumbing question before you commit to anything.

Who fixes gas leaks, SoCalGas or a plumber?

Both have a role, which is why people ask who fixes gas leaks, SoCalGas or a plumber. The utility handles its side up to the meter and will shut off gas in an emergency, but the repair on your home’s lines is done by a licensed plumbing contractor like us. We make the repair and prepare the line for the utility to restore service.

A red tag means the utility found an unsafe condition and shut the gas off. We handle the SoCalGas red tag repair, fix exactly what was flagged, run a pressure test, and take care of gas line recertification so the utility can re-inspect and turn your gas back on.

Gas leak repair cost depends on where the leak is and what it takes to reach and fix it, a single accessible fitting is far less than a buried line. We locate the leak, then give you the price upfront before any work starts.

They are two different dangers. A gas leak is raw natural gas or propane escaping, and you can smell it because of the added odorant. Carbon monoxide is odorless and comes from appliances burning fuel incompletely, so you cannot smell it and need a CO detector. Both are serious, and if you suspect either, leave and call for help.

A gas leak outside near the meter may be on the utility’s side rather than yours, since the utility owns the line up to and including the meter. Call your gas utility for anything at or before the meter; we handle the lines and connections on your side of it.
