Signs Your Water Heater Needs Repair
No Hot Water
A water heater not working at all, with no hot water, points to a failed element or thermostat on an electric unit, or a pilot, thermocouple, or gas valve issue on a gas unit. On electric units, a tripped reset button is sometimes the culprit, and a quick diagnosis tells us which.
Not Enough Hot Water
If you run out of hot water fast or it never gets hot enough, the cause is often a bad lower element, a failing thermostat, or sediment eating into the tank’s capacity. Many of these are repairable.
Water Heater Leaking
Where the leak shows up tells the story. A water heater leaking from top, usually a loose fitting, a valve, or a connection, can often be repaired. A water heater leaking from the bottom usually means the tank itself has failed, and that calls for a water heater replacement, not a repair.
Popping or Rumbling Noise
A water heater making popping noise or rumbling is sediment hardened on the bottom of the tank, boiling under the buildup. A flush often quiets it and helps the unit run better, if it is caught before the tank is damaged.
Pilot Light Keeps Going Out
If the water heater pilot light keeps going out, the usual suspect is a worn thermocouple or a dirty pilot assembly. It is a common, fixable repair, and one you should not keep relighting without getting it looked at.

Rusty hot water can mean a failing anode rod or a tank corroding from the inside. An anode rod is a cheap fix, but a rusting tank is a sign replacement is coming, so this one is worth checking early.

How much does water heater repair cost?
Water heater repair cost depends on the part that failed and whether it is a gas or electric unit. A thermostat, element, or thermocouple is an affordable fix, while a major component on an old tank may point toward replacement. We give you the price upfront, with the service fee credited toward the work.
Should I repair or replace my water heater?
If your unit is under about 8 to 10 years old and the fix is a part, repair usually makes sense. If it is older, leaking from the tank, or facing a costly repair, a water heater replacement is the better value. We give you the honest call rather than the expensive one.
Is a leaking water heater an emergency?
A small drip from a valve or fitting is usually not urgent, but a tank leaking from the bottom can flood fast and should be handled right away. If yours is leaking from the bottom, shut off the water to it and call us.
